Butterfield says CIBC acquisition on track
Butterfield Bank said its $1.8 billion acquisition of CIBC Caribbean is on course to close in the first half of 2027. CIBC Caribbean shareholders have approved the deal and regulatory applications are submitted, while few cost synergies are projected.
Why it matters:The deal brings a larger regional banking group to Caribbean markets including The Bahamas, where Butterfield will review CIBC Caribbean's Bahamian sovereign securities holdings after closing. (Neutral development)
