Privacy policy
Last updated October 30, 2026.
SectorNews (sector.news) is run by Sector Specific Media Ltd., 138 Shirley Street, Nassau, The Bahamas ("we"). This policy explains what we collect when you read SectorNews, create an account or receive the Sector Roundup email, and what you can do about it. We don't sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Reading without an account
You can read SectorNews without giving us any personal information. To remember your choices, we store:
| What | Where | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| The sub-sectors you follow in MySectors | A cookie in your browser (sn_follows) | To show MySectors | 1 year, or until you clear it |
| A random ID, not linked to your identity | A cookie (sn_voter), with your thumbs up/down stored against it on our servers | To remember your reactions and apply the reaction limit | 1 year |
| Whether you closed the Sector Roundup invitation | Your browser's local storage | So it stays hidden | Until you clear it |
These are needed for the features you use, not for tracking you across other sites.
With an account
When you sign up we collect your email address. We use it to send sign-in links and, if you choose, the Sector Roundup email. We also store the sub-sectors and companies you follow, your reactions, your Sector Roundup setting and a record of which Roundup emails we sent you. Signing in sets a session cookie so you stay signed in, and copies of your sub-sectors and companies are kept in cookies so pages load quickly.
Usage and technical data
- Server logs: like any website, our hosting provider records technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to run and secure the service.
- Analytics: we use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and visits. It sets no cookies and doesn't identify you.
- Video: SectorTV videos play through Mux, which collects playback data (for example device type, playback quality and errors) to stream video reliably and measure viewing.
- Email: our email provider records whether emails were delivered. We don't track whether you open them.
Who processes data for us
| Provider | What it does for SectorNews |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the website, server logs, analytics |
| Supabase | Database and sign-in (servers in the United States) |
| Resend | Sends sign-in emails and the Sector Roundup email |
| Mux | Hosts and streams SectorTV video |
| Google Workspace | Receives email sent to sector.news addresses |
Some of these providers are in the United States, so your information may be processed outside The Bahamas. We also use AI services to summarise the news articles we link to; they process published news text, not your personal information.
Why we may use it
We use your email address, sub-sectors, companies and reactions to provide the account and the Sector Roundup email you asked for. We keep server logs and count visits because we have a legitimate interest in running SectorNews securely and understanding how it's used. You can turn the Sector Roundup email off or delete your account at any time.
How long we keep it
Account information is kept until you delete your account. Deleting it from your account page removes your email address, sign-in, followed sub-sectors and companies, reactions and Sector Roundup history. Reactions made without an account are kept against their random ID. Server logs are kept for a limited period set by our hosting provider.
Your choices and rights
- Turn the Sector Roundup email off on your account page, or use the unsubscribe link in any Roundup email.
- See or change your sub-sectors and companies on your account page, and delete your account there at any time.
- Clear SectorNews cookies in your browser to remove the choices stored there.
- For anything else, including a copy of the information we hold about you or a correction, email hello@sector.news. Under The Bahamas' Data Protection (Privacy of Personal Information) Act you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and have it corrected. If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR also gives you the right to have it erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We'll respond within one month.
SectorNews isn't intended for children under 16.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email. Questions: hello@sector.news, Sector Specific Media Ltd., 138 Shirley Street, Nassau, The Bahamas.
